Cyber Watch: SPAM Bombs

Several employees have reported receiving many SPAM message direct to their inbox. This is an attack method called SPAM bombing, and is usually done to distract recipients in a hope they will lower their guard and fall victim to their real attack. These attacks will usually precede an attack aimed at gaining access to accounts or computers.
Employees should be on high alert, and ensure that they report anything suspicious immediately. Below are some tips:
- If you receive a call from IT, accounting, or executives asking you to provide access to your account, computer, or sensitive information, hang up immediately and contact them through an alternative and known method of communication.
- Executives will not ask you to buy gift cards or transfer money through messaging.
- IT will only contact you through help@hpgbrands.com or their hpgbrands.com email address. We may also use the Remote Management Software installed on company computers to send you a message.
- IT will not use Microsoft Teams, AnyDesk, TeamView, LogMeIn, etc. to request access to your computers.
- Accounting and HR will use only hpgbrands.com email addresses or their HPG Brands phone number for communications. Even then, please do not share sensitive information over any messaging application. If you need to share something over the phone, make sure you were the one to initiate the call and that the number you call is accurate.
- Treat every email, instant message, or text message as suspect until you prove it is 100% safe.
If ever you have a doubt, report the incident to IT and your manager.
Thank you all for keeping HPG safe.
